Not long ago we had a spirited debate on this topic in one of the mailing groups that I am part of. So when I saw this article in today's ToI news paper, I went like "Hey! Look what we have here!".
In the aforementioned debate, we had inputs coming in from different kinds of people with different levels of command over the language. It was interesting to go through them and the debate was quite enlightening on the 'human psychology' front too. So I thought I'll present the topic before the larger audience (my emails go out directly to more than a thousand people across the globe) and see if anybody has any interesting opinion or anecdote to share concerning the importance/unimportance ('Hey, just get the message across buddy. Why all this fuss about spelling and grammar in this get-the-job-done world?!') of good or bad communication skills in your personal or professional sphere that I can share with the rest.
Before I solicit your opinion, let me give you mine - Some say humans raced ahead of the rest of the species because of their ability to stand on two feet; some others opine that it was the invention/discovery of the wheel/fire; but I strongly feel that it was the distinctly enhanced ability to communicate among themselves that turned the tables in favour of humans vis-à-vis the species that had more muscle-power!
A Calvin special:

A Chinese Proverb -
He who knows not, and knows not that he knows not, is a fool...shun him.
He who knows not, and knows that he knows not, is willing...teach him.
He who knows, and knows not that he knows, is asleep...awaken him.
He who knows, and knows that he knows, is wise...follow him.
