Caste System

The following is an e-mail I sent to my friends sometime back.I find it still relevant in a society divided by artificial and meaningless walls... This is in ref. to the article "Your Caste is not Immutable: Choose What You Want to Be" by Seema Burman in the Times of India dtd 19/05/06 (pg 14, The speaking tree). It is an interesting-read for those who do not believe in the caste system as it exists today and a must-read for those who do.I tried to get a link or a soft copy but could not find one. The article explains how the present version of the caste system arose from a misinterpretation of the Gita. Classification of the society/family/individual on the basis of mental qualities ended up as classification of the society on the basis of birth. So we need to pity/educate/look down with contempt ( Reservation on caste basis/national crisis) those who divide the society on these lines….even if they happen to be our own parents. We need to take the initiative to do everything possible, no matter how small they are, to wipe out this disease plaguing the oldest religion on the planet. In any case when babies are born they don't come with a seal. It is we who brand them with the seals of race/religion/caste/sect. "There is only one caste, the caste of Humanity" -Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
